Pearls may be a girl's (second) best friend, but PURLs can be your company's best friend. A PURL, or Personalized URL, is basically a webpage that is customized to the person visiting the website. It is often used in conjunction with Direct Mail or Email Marketing Campaigns. On the mailed material, there would be a web address that included the person's name and a unique 3 digit code; something like:

www.yourdomain.com/john.doe.375 

When the recipient visits their unique webpage, the information that we have about that person is seamlessly merged onto the page. Information like first name, company name, unique headlines, and unique offers or information. The idea is that if a person sees a link with his/her name in it, they will be more likely to visit that page. It is akin to hearing your name called out in a crowd. Inevitably you turn to see who is calling for you, even if they're calling someone else, you still pay attention. As business owners, wouldn't it be great to make people pay attention to your company and marketing messages?

PURLs represent marketing at its best. By combining technology solutions with tried-and-true direct mail and email strategies, you can maximize every marketing dollar. The personalized mailing piece or e-newsletter  captures the prospect's attention, and then drives him/her to a personalized webpage where a richer, more complete story about your company can be told.

This example shows the customized fields that have been merged into a PURL - i.e. www.yourdomain.com/bob_johnson. When Mr. Johnson selects or types his personalized URL a page will be generated with customized information specific to Mr. Johnson.
